Brammo’s new Empulse motorcycle, released last week, is an electric bike that can ride for up to 100 miles on a single charge.
Most models have a top speed of 100 miles per hour (mph), but the Empulse, the newer version of the Enertia, is set apart from the rest because it is also logging 100 miles per charge, and it may even reach 130 miles of run time at a low speed.
The Empulse has three different models: the 6kw, which averages 60 miles per charge; the 8kw, which averages 80 miles per charge; and the 10kw, which averages 100 miles per charge. The costs of the different versions are $9,995, $11,995 and $13,995.
The 10kw Empulse has a standard 110v outlet and may require overnight charging time. The bike is not recommended for long-distance trips, but rather cite riding.

Yamaha Experiences Debt Crisis
July 19th, 2010
On Thurs. July 15, Yamaha Motor Co., the second largest motorcycle maker, said that sales in North America and Europe may fall double due to a debt crisis.
Combined sales in North America and Europe may decrease nearly 20 percent in 2010. A decreased demand for motorcycles in developed countries is causing Yamaha to eliminate jobs and close some of it’s manufacturing plants. According to the Chief Executive Officer, Hiroyuki Yanagi, this is compared to an previous 10 percent sales decline.
After cutting 1,100 jobs last year, Yamaha expects to eliminate another 1,000 this year. In addition, five Japanese plants will be closed, and one boat manufacturer in the U.S. will be closed by 2012. This is in addition to the 2009 closure of the motorcycle plant in Italy.
Yamaha’s motorcycle sales made up 25 percent of its 2009 revenue, down 31 percent from 2008. According to Yanagi, the euro has weakened beyond Yamaha’s currency hedging position and may crimp earnings in the second half of the year.”
The company continues to investigate proceeds from an April share sale in order to develop lower-priced motorcycles that will increase company sales in emerging markets.
