2009 Harley Davidson Super Glide Custom wins July BOM contest!
Greg Gaug, with a total of 5,730 votes, won $500 in MotorEagles’ July Bike-of-the-Month contest.
Gaug is one of six finalists who participated in the July contest. His Dyna SuperGlide Custom is the first Harley Davidson he’s ever owned, and its popularity earned him 56 percent of the votes and a $500 gift card. MotorEagles’ met with the winner at Canton Quaker Steak and Lube to congratulate him and celebrate his big win.
“There are two things I wanted to do in 2010,” said Gaug. “I wanted to get a custom bike, and I wanted to attend the world’s biggest rally – I just got back from Sturgis three weeks ago. My wife and I put 2000 miles on our bikes.”
According to Gaug, he already has plans for his $500 winnings, “We’re going to put more chrome on the bike.”

Bike A: 1965 Triumph T120 Bonneville
Riding my rigid Triumph 96 miles in a rainstorm with it not running right (couldn’t do 45 mph on the highway) to the Easyriders Rodeo in Prospect, PA.

While riding one late afternoon, I was taken back in time to my youth when I first fell in love with riding two wheels. It was the gentle wind and particularly the smell of the air that captured my senses on this day.
If many of you are like me, certain smells bring back certain memories. Like the smell of cotton candy being made at the county fair. Or, the smell of a flower that reminds you of a certain somebody special from way back when. If your not like me, then you may not understand how the smell in the air can bring back memories.
For me, it was the smell in the air just before evening sets in that took me back to the small Ohio town I grew up in. The neighbors behind us had a Harley Davidson trail bike that ran like a top! The neighbor boy Dave Osborne was a nice kid and taught me how to ride it. I loved hitting the corners in their side yard. Over time, I could nearly hold the throttle open the entire way around the track without letting off. Nearly that is. But what a memory. I’m sure Dave has moved on the great things. Wonder what ever happened to that trail bike?

I’ve always been a motorcycle fan and as soon as I could afford I bought my first bike. Every year I have upgraded to a faster and more powerful sport bike. I was hit by another biker in 2006 and slid down the highway at 70 mph. After receiving treatment at the hospital I road my tattered bike home and never let it change my opinion of the rush I get while riding. This past year I gave up the sport bikes, and bought my first “old man bike” as my GF calls it. My Ironhorse has a 111 S&S motor pushing 1819cc and wins every bike show I have put it in. Not only is it an eye catcher I keep it pristine, and love to make it shine.
My best experience was the first ride home when I bought it. The power, the presence and the pride I have while riding it fuel my passion.

I guess the most humorous thing that happened was my wife (we call her Slopoke) living up to her name. She has her own Harley (said she was not going to ride on the back any more – so I bought her one) and we ride everywhere together.
When we’d go through the toll booths, I’d pay for both of us (one guy said you couldn’t do that – but I guess I talked him into it – or he saw this really small woman on this really big Harley and decided it was safer just to get the money from me). Anyway, our last toll booth in Ohio, I gave the agent our tickets and paid for both. She smiles at me as I leave. Slopoke on the other hand piddles around and then takes off. Well the gate goes up for me and just about the time Slopoke gets to it – down it comes. So with all the expertise she can muster (a whole 13 month’s worth)… she hit the gate while going up over the curb… and there she sits … feet dangling – calling the agent every name in the book (and then some)… I’m half way down the ramp… stop … and turn around and drive back – the Turnpike people see me coming up the exit and shut down all the lanes and Slopoke was just sitting there, dangling from the curb … cussing … and the agent running toward her telling her she must have been going to fast (luckily Slopoke couldn’t get off the bike – I think she would have slapped her)… it was really, really hard to keep a straight face. I got over to her and told her to let go of the breaks and she turns (with venom spewing) and said “I don’t have the brakes on” … she actually had the frame sitting on the curb! Never the less, we got going – I took the wrong turn going down the ramp (trying to make sure Slopoke was “still in control”), so we’re now going east – instead of west, went up one exit and stopped for coffee … I was able to clear the tears out of my eyes (laughing so hard) and she was able to clear that filthy mouth of hers …

This bike was handed down to me from my sister. Her husband was killed while riding this bike comming home from a toy run in Midway, Ohio. A lady pulled out in front of him……well you know the rest. The deal with my sister for me to get the bike I had to get it back on the road. Well, it took about a year to get it done but it is great to have a constant reminder of my brother-in-law riding with me. I am the only one that he let ride his bike. I never thought I would ever own it. I know that he would love the way I put it back together. See, I put a Wideglide front end on it but everything else is pretty much how he had it. I miss my brother in law, but his memory lives in me with his bike.

Every day I ride is like my first ride, I just love it. When I ride it takes all my stress away and lets me be free of all the daily crap. Riding is not just a cool thing to do, its what I love about riding if I have to tell you, you wouldn’t understand lol… “peace” ride it like its your last ride and be safe my friends.
