Kawasaki Ninja wins August BOM contest!
Brian Kinney wins $500 in MotorEagles’ August Bike-of-the-Month contest with a total of 4,073 votes.
Kinney is one of six contestants who participated in the August contest. After being involved in a life-changing motorcycle accident in 2009, Kinney had one goal of getting back on his bike. Six months ago, he was able to modify his damaged bike and get back to the one thing he loves most: riding. His recently repaired 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 650R earned him 73 percent of the votes and a $500 gift card.
“My love for riding never faded after my accident,” said Kinney. “Six months ago, my goal became getting back on my bike, and after a ton of work, blood, sweat and tears, I’m back on the same bike.”

Bike A: 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 650R
On September 4th, 2009 I was leaving work on my bike and heading home as usual. When I pulled out of the parking lot, a woman in a car across the street pulled out and ran me off the road. I hit a tree head first and was out knocked out. When I woke up in the hospital, I found out my spine was crushed on impact and I was paralyzed from the chest down. My life has forever changed but thanks to a Shoei helmet, I still have my mind…something I couldn’t live with out in this condition.
Since my accident, I’ve had to learn to live all over again. Instead of pissing and moaning, I have vowed to keep my head up and figure things out. Everyone was amazed that only 4 months after my accident, I was back to work and driving again.
My love for riding never faded after my accident. 6 months ago, my goal became getting back on my bike. After a ton of work, blood sweat and tears, I’m BACK on the same bike!!! Here is my modified 650R. I use and electric shift solenoid (controlled with left hand) and a linear actuator to raise and lower the “landing gear.” (switch on throttle side) It is unbelievably stable. Once I get rolling, I hit a switch on the right hand control and I’m off! I use straps on my legs just as added insurance.
Bike B: 1981 Harley Davidson Custom Shovelhead
My best motorcycling story…..uhmmm I don’t know, is it Sturgis or maybe Daytona or that poker run with a bunch of good freinds or no was it that Saturday morning with nothing to do so I went for a short ride that turned into a great weekend, maybe a bike night ride, no no no, it’s when I was 7 or 8 and got my first mini-bike and this whole wonderful life began. Yeah that’s it. And what an experience it’s been so far.
Bike C: 1988 Harley Davidson FXST-Softail
Borrowed a bike from a friend to take my test on – instructor said the tire was too bald and unsafe – so wouldn’t let me take the test. Ended up riding a strangers 750 Magna and passing the test with a perfect score on a bike I had never even seen – let alone ride.
Bike D: 2007 Big Dog K9
STURGIS, 2010… Some of the best riding of any year as well as the most fun out of the previous years. 800,000 plus bikers this year was impressive…
Bike E: 2003 Suzuki V-Strom
Rode from Cleveland, OH around Lake Erie+Lake Ontario in 23 hours straight, 1,050 miles. Earned my Iron Butt membership. Great ride, met some great people in Canada.
Bike F: 2001 Harley Davidson Fatboy
Building this bike has brought great pride and enjoyment. It was 3 years in the making, or I should say 3 winters in the making. Gotta ride during the summer. A half dozen Bike Weeks later it’s still a great source of pride, and runs every day.
